· Warm Up Activity Balloon Frantic

Begin with two to three inflated balloons per person and a stopwatch. Each person has a balloon, with the rest in a nearby pile. Everyone begins bouncing their balloons in the air. Every five seconds, another balloon is added. See how long the group can keep the balloons bouncing before receiving six penalties. A penalty is announced loudly (to create stress!) by the leader when a balloon hits the floor, or once on the floor, if is not got back into play within five seconds. The leader keeps a cumulative score by shouting out “one”, “two”, etc. When the leader gets to “six”, time is stopped. After some discussion, the group tries to better its record with another attempt.

Focus Question: What are coping strategies to implement to manage emotional stress at your time of grief?

Summary: Revenge is ABC’s latest TV show about a young women seeking revenge to the people who betrayed her father. Emily was sent away from her father and once she was free to see him he died while waiting for his case to close.

Reaction/Connection/Analysis: Emily Thorne, the protagonist of the TV show Revenge has a lot of anger towards the people that framed her father. As a result Emily has moved to the Hamptons in attempt to ruin each persons life one by one that is responsible for her fathers framing.

Emily needs to move on or put the past on her “back burner” because in order for these people to receive the karma they deserve Emily does illegal things that can negatively impact her and leave her to rot in jail just like her father.

Summary: The song is about having an eating disorder and all the baggage that comes with it, and if it is really worth it.

Reaction/Connection/Analysis: Having an eating disorder is potentially fatal because you can easily die of malnutrition. Other problems include having weaker bones, as a result of not consuming the suggested amount of calcium. As displayed in the song, having an eating disorder can also change how you act.

I thought this was a pretty accurate song and did a nice job of depicting the effect eating disorders leave on a person.

Conflict 2...Remember the Titans

Artifact: Remember the Titans

Topic Question:How can you demonstrate strategies to prevent,manage, or resolve interpersonal conflicts?

Summary: The movie is about the unity of white and black high school football players and the acceptance of each there team members no matter what “color” they are. The two teams combining brews conflict within the town, because many have trouble accepting blacks and whites on the same football team.

Connection/Analysis- In order to prevent interpersonal conflict in Remember the Titans the coaches need to slowly fuse the two teams together by doing “team bonding activities” and such. Eventually the two groups of players will get along. As for the racist town, it would be hard to change their views because there are so many of them. Also the town probably has a lot of adults that have always lived a certain way and are too stubborn to change now.

Focus Question: Predict the societal impact of substance abuse on the individual, family and community.

Summary/Reaction/Connection/Analysis: Brian Mills, a divorcee and former spy has left “the business” and now does what he can to make up for lost time with his daughter. His 17 year old daughter Kim wants to go abroad to Paris with her friend, her father unsure permits her to go.

Once in Paris Kim and her friend Amanda share a taxi with who they think is a nice French boy; he invites them to a party later that night. Both girls excited about the evening they go up to their deserted apartment and dance joyfully. All the while Kim’s father tries reaching her. She calls him back and moves to the other side of the apartment. As she tells her father how much shes enjoying Paris she sees her friend Amanda being abducted. Kim begins to freak out her father gives her directions what to do and then she is abducted.

Brian being a former spy travels to Paris to find his missing daughter. Along the way he searches for her in “whore houses” where he sees girls addicted to drugs. In his journey he comes across Amanda, Kim’s friend. Amanda was found dead in a bed, odds are due to an overdose on drugs.

The Albanians in this movie would abduct young, innocent women and then addict them to drugs in order for them to become prostitutes and such.

I thought this movie made people more aware about the human trafficking and the hardships families and the victim’s face from it. I liked how the movie was able to hit major issues including addiction, that effect millions of people’s lives everyday.

In this case substance abuse was forced upon the “drug addict” by an outside source. The gang members who addict these innocent women to drugs are morphing these women’s lives and potentially killing them by overdose or a slow death of addiction.

Topic: What is your analysis of how new technologies may positively or negatively impact the incidence of conflict or crisis?

Summary: The article titled New poll finds rise in cyberbullying among young people ,sponsored by Blast Magazine is an informational feature story discussing the rise of virtual bullying. The associated press and MTV both had a poll asking if teens have ever been the target of online bullying or harassment. 56 % people that voted say they have been a victim. Online bullying is highest amongst middle school and high school students, and can permanently affect one’s life. Average teenagers Phoebe Prince and Jamey Rodemeyer had been bullied to the extreme. Both committed suicide due to harassment via online. There was also a poll about has your partner ever harassed you via text or online and 4 out of 10 voted yes. After reading this article social networking and such can be viewed as a negative impact to teens in todays society.

Reaction/Analysis: It is extremely unfortunate that adolescents have steeped so low in this in age to bullying a person without even saying it to the victims face. It’s disgusting how one can sit behind a computer and say such dire things to an innocent person like Phoebe or Jamey. I am astonished how the definition of “being bullied” has been altered over the past decade.
